Frequently asked questions-Raised ink - Thermography
What is Raised Ink?
The correct term is "thermography". The cards are printed with ink,
while the ink is still wet, a clear powder is sprinkled over the ink,
the cards are sent through an oven, the ink bubbles from the heat,
rises above the cardstock and dries instantly
What are the drawbacks with raised ink (thermography)?
1) The ink tends to "grow", therefore, thermography is often not acceptable for fine detail.
2) Very large areas of ink will tend to take on a bubbly texture due to the heat. The
effect can be very pleasing, or very disappointing, depending on the design.
3) Because it is heat treated, there is a limit to the number of ink colors that can be applied
The best results happen with 1 to 2 colors of ink, and occasionally (depending on the
detail), 3 colors of ink can be very effective
